Born 25.12.1937 in Berlin, 1957-1962 study of Philosophy and Theology in Bonn. 1961-1963  study for the Diplôme d’Études Arabes, Université Saint Joseph, Beirut. 1963 joins a Jesuit order. 1964-1966 licenciate in Philosophy, Philosophische Hochschule SJ, Pullach near Munich 1966-1976 study at the School of African and Oriental Studies, University of London: BA (Hon.) Urdu and PhD (History of Muslim South Asia). 1976-1988 Professor of Islamic Studies at Vidyajyoti, Institute of Religious Studies, New Delhi. 1988-1993 Senior Lecturer at the Centre for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations in Birmingham.1993-1999 Professor of Islamic Institutions at the  Papal Oriental Institute in Rome.  1992-2001 Visiting Professor at the Ilahiyat Fakültesi at Ankara University. 1999-2001 Head of the Christian-Islamic Forum of the Catholic Academy in Berlin. 2001 Honorary Professor at the Philosophisch-Theologischen Hochschule Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main.

Tobias Specker

born 1971 in Goch am Niederrhein. Following his PhD in Fundamental Theology on the French Philosopher Jean-Luc Marion he joined the Jesuit order in 2001. He worked at the Jesuit school in Berlin and in adult education at the Heinrich-Pesch Haus in the South-West of Germany where he was responsible for the areas of “interfaith dialogue” and “biblical theology”. 2010 - 2013 after several years in charge of Islamic Affairs for the Bishop of Speyer he enrolled in the newly introduced degree course “Islamic Studies” in Frankfurt. Since October 2014 following a six months stay in East Africa he has been working as a Junior Professorat the Jesuit University Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule der Jesuiten in Frankfurt. In the context of  Christian-Islamic dialogue he is particularly interested in current Turkish Islam and is trying to develop a Christian theology for the encounter with Islam.
